The Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review is hosting a symposium, co-sponsored by CSAC, “Rebooting California: Initiatives, Conventions & Government Reform,” on Friday, September 24 in Robinson Courtroom on Loyola Law School’s downtown Los Angeles campus.
As the temperature in Sacramento exceeds 100 degrees for the second day in a row, it does not seem to be driving state leaders any closer to resolving what is now the fourth latest budget in state history. In fact, they seem to be drifting even further apart.
AB 155 was approved today by the Senate Local Government Committee on a 3-1 vote. The Committee focused its discussions on new amendments that provide an alternative to the CDIAC process. Unfortunately, the potential for significant delay still exists, placing local programs and services at risk.
AB 155 is back, amended and scheduled to be heard in the Senate Local Government Committee on Tuesday, August 24.
Today, the Department of Finance, State Controller’s Office, and State Treasurer’s Office jointly determined the need to exercise the authority available to them under Government Code Section 16325.5(e) and move the 90-day deferral of social services payments to counties from October 2010 to September 2010.
